Blurred

Production log 2

Success, Challenges, Targets for next week.

This week we had huge success in the post-production, whilst we knew we had some more things to re-shoot, we were able to get a lot done this week. Throughout the week we was able to build the the structure of the short film, and start to really edit the beginning of the film. We further was able to record the voice over scripts for the film and start to add in the non copyright music for the certain scenes. This week really helped us to get things edited as we knew this would take up the most amount of time. We ideally wanted to start to colour correct as well, as we knew this would also take a long time. The bedroom, desk scenes came out too orange and warm, which was the opposite style that we needed to go for. In terms of weaknesses, we didnt actually face many, because we was just editing this week. We did encounter a technical problem with final cut and our mac, but this was quickly solved by switching macs and transferring the file over. The targets for next week would be that we would really like to re-shoot the scene that came out too dark, as well as finish production by recording the final scene of the short film, which was a date scene.

Team and individual performances, Contingency plans.

This week individual performances were very key, this was because exams were starting and so we did not spend much time together editing, so we needed to be on the same page with the direction and vision of the film. This was done to a very high standard, which allowed us to come together at the end of the week and continue with the edit where we did not have to go back and change things. In terms of contingency plans we did aim to record the voice over in the music department, so that the quality would be very crisp. However to remain on time and on schedule we decided to record it in the gallery of the media department because it was quicker. Thankfully the clarity of the voice over was still high, as we was able to record it with a rode mic as well.

Monitoring Final Product, Problem solving, Quality control.

In terms of monitoring the final product we was able to go through all of the shots by now that we wanted to use. We found that the visuals were all fine except for some of the audio, which either had some feedback noise or had some heavy background noise. This was not too much of a problem as we were going to use Foley sound anyways. In terms of problem solving we did not face any that stumped our progression towards the final product. We was able to edit this week with little to no problems which was a big help for us in terms of progression. As for quality control this week, we really focused on the colour correction and the visuals of the product. The aesthetics was something that we really worked hard on this week, which meant we could leave a lot of the audio for next week.

Production Log 1

Success, Challenges & Targets for next week.

The success we had this week was more to do with the production of our short film, we was able to film a majority of the film ready to start editing. In total our film has 9 scenes in which this week we was able to film 8. Our one challenge that we did face was getting the actors together to film the last scene we needed to complete production of the short film. Our targets for next week is to start editing the short film, as we have a majority filmed, and further we aim to complete production of the short film. We feel these targets are achievable and further feel that we are on time with the production schedule.

Team performance, Contingency plans.

In terms of the performance of the team, we have performed well, being organised and working together with a good cohesion. Although we may have different ideas at times, we are able to come to a compromise or discuss things to achieve the best outcome for the film. We was able to use one of our primary locations  which was Ben's house, however we did originally want to film in Brighton, which was not possible at the time of production, this meant that we had to use one our contingency locations which was Southend. Although this was a change for us, we was able to get things filmed, and we felt to a good standard. Aside from the locations we didn't need to use any other contingencies and was able to use all other primary resources.

Monitoring final product, Problem solving, Quality control.

In terms of how the final product looks, we feel that large parts of the filming were successful. However, when we start to edit then we will have a more in depth idea of how the final product is looking. As for problem solving, we did have problems with the casting. Our original cast pulled out and we was left with only a couple of days to film. However we were able to pull together and find some other people that were willing to be apart of our cast. Whilst it was a crisis at the time we felt that we were able to work around it. In terms of quality control we was able to see that most of the scenes were in focus and filmed well. However we did notice that one of the night scenes looked too grainy and too dark, which we would later need to re-shoot. Aside from this scene the rest of our footage at this point seemed to be fine.

Production Log 3

Success, Challenges, Targets for next week.

This week we had huge success in the progression of our short film. This week we have been able to finish production of the short film and get scenes re-shot as well as finally shooting the date scene. This was a massive boost for us as we were able to now move forward with post-production and remain on schedule. In terms of post-production, we were able to start to add some effects on to the timeline, and work with audio more, which included the music and sound effects we wanted to add. In terms of the challenges that we faced, were mainly to do with the female actor that we needed for the date scene of our film. We unfortunately had 2 people cancel on us which lefts us struggling some what. However we were able to ask another person, which was happy and available to help us out. Once we did have an actor to play the role, the actual shoot was very easy. The targets for next week mainly sit with the sound, we need to start adding in the dialogue between the characters from various scene, and further start to dub in some of the foley sound that we want to use. We further feel that by the end of next week we are likely to complete the short film and remain on schedule.

Team and individual performances, Contingency plans.

The performances this week were really reliant on the actors that helped us out. This is because we further had to people to once again come down to southend because we needed to re-shoot the scene, this we knew would be more aggravating for them. That being said though, the actors were superb and performed at a high level, listening and doing exactly what we needed them to do, and actually they helped us creatively with some of the scenes as well. Through their high performances it did mean that we was able to get the production of the film done. In terms of contingency plans, we did not have to use any other locations this week, ideally from the start of the film we have had to use a contingency location in southend as opposed to Brighton, but within southend there were no contingencies there. In stead we was able to film exactly where we wanted to.

Monitoring Final Product, Problem solving, Quality control.

As for monitoring the final product, we are spending a lot more time editing and in post, which has allowed us to keep a close eye on the quality of the final product and how it is shaping up. Fortunately with the re-shoots done on the same day as the date scene, there was a smoother flow in the scenes, which only improved the aesthetic of the short film. In terms of problem solving, we didnt have many big issues, the storage space on our accounts is low, which means we cant download music straight on to the mac. This does mean that we have to use a separate pc to download the music and sound effects, and then further use a usb/sd card to transfer it over into the macs, final cut file. Whilst this is a long process we move around this by downloading the music the night before and bringing various pieces of music to the editing sessions. As for the quality control we have constantly been going through the various aspects of the film to make sure they are to near professional standards. We aim for this to be our best piece of work, so we are constantly looking through it and cleaning things up constantly, along the way. We further have been watching the short film, all the way through at the end of the session, to recap what needs doing and what has been done well.
